Autumn Ambiance: A Fall Tablescape

Autumn Ambiance: A Fall Tablescape

Traditional table settings are timeless and can easily be achieved by adding some essential and charming components of decor.  It’s one of my favorite ways to embrace the season.  By creating a beautiful Fall table, whether hosting a Thanksgiving dinner or simply enjoying a quiet meal with family or friends, the table makes my home feel cozy and inviting.

By following these 7 tips, you can create a traditional table setting that is both beautiful and functional. Remember, the key to a successful table setting is the little decor details that make you and your guests feel special.

Tablecloth and Placemats

A high-quality tablecloth is the foundation of a traditional table setting. Consider a linen or cotton tablecloth in a neutral color like white, cream, or ivory. To add a touch of texture or pattern, add a runner or placemats on top.

Flatware and Seasonings

Choose classic flatware that compliments your tablecloth and overall style. If they are sterling silver, make sure each piece is polished and free from chips or cracks. Don’t forget the salt & pepper and butter

Glassware

Glassware can elevate your table setting. This includes wine glasses, water glasses, champagne flutes, decanters, and pitchers. If you like a more formal setting, consider using crystal glassware.

Napkins

Cloth napkins instantly add sophistication to your table setting. Choose napkins that complement your tablecloth and dinnerware. Consider folding them in a classic style, such as the bird fold. For an added touch, add leaf napkin rings.

Serving Trays and Cheese Boards

Serving trays are great for transporting from the kitchen to the table or set up on a sideboard for appetizers and desserts.  Cheese boards that are simple are best and can be used for serving food or as a hot plate.

Centerpiece

A striking centerpiece can draw the eye and create a focal point on your table.  Keep the centerpiece low and unobtrusive so that guests can easily converse across the table. You can use candles, lanterns, or vases filled with flowers or branches. For a rustic touch, try a wooden layering plank or wire baskets.

Fall Decor Elements

Adding a few Fall decor pieces like floral arrangements, pumpkins, gourds, and autumn leaves complete the table.  A few of our favorites are wood garland, Turkey salt & pepper shakers, Fig & Leaf card holders, mango candles, and velvet harvest pumpkins

If you're feeling creative, try making your own Fall centerpieces.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Pumpkin centerpiece: Carve a pumpkin and fill it with flowers, candles, or other decorative elements.
  • Leaf arrangement: Create a beautiful arrangement using colorful fall leaves.
  • Miniature forest: Use small potted plants, moss, and twigs to create a miniature forest scene.

I hope these tips and ideas inspire you to create a beautiful and inviting Fall table setting. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the company!
